Mechanism of Action
MOTS-c is a 16-amino acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene. In cell and mouse studies it has been reported to inhibit the folate–methionine cycle, raise AICAR levels, and activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), with downstream effects on glucose utilization and skeletal-muscle metabolism. Under metabolic stress MOTS-c has been observed to translocate to the nucleus and regulate nuclear gene expression, and exercise-training studies in mice associate MOTS-c with PGC-1α-dependent mitochondrial adaptation. Observations summarized here derive from in vitro assays and animal models; the material sold on this page has not been evaluated in controlled human trials.

Reconstitution & Storage
Lyophilized MOTS-c is stable at −20°C or colder in its sealed vial; −80°C is preferable for long-term archival. Reconstitute in bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) to a laboratory working concentration of 1–5 mg/mL for in vitro use. Once reconstituted, refrigerate at 2–8°C and use within approximately 30 days. Aliquot into single-use vials at reconstitution to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the working solution.
