DSIP
DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a nonapeptide originally isolated from cerebral venous blood of rabbits during sleep induction. Preclinical studies in animal models indicate that DSIP may modulate sleep patterns, exert stress-protective effects, and influence neuroendocrine regulation. Research has explored its potential to promote delta-wave sleep and normalize disturbed sleep architecture in various experimental paradigms.[1][2]
Key Research Areas
- Sleep Regulation & Delta-Wave Promotion – In rabbit and rat models, DSIP administration has been shown to increase delta (slow-wave) sleep duration, reduce sleep latency, and normalize sleep-wake cycles in stress-induced or pharmacologically disrupted sleep patterns.[3][4]
- Stress Protection & Adaptation – Preclinical investigations demonstrate DSIP's ability to attenuate stress responses, protect against metabolic disturbances under chronic stress, and modulate HPA axis activity in animal models of immobilization or cold stress.[5][6]
- Neuroendocrine & Pain Modulation Pathways – Studies suggest DSIP influences opioid systems, reduces nociceptive responses in pain models, and affects release of hormones such as LH and GH in certain experimental conditions.[7][8]
